More than 75 vehicles are equipped with SNG antennas and block upconverters for enhanced nation-wide news coverage
When China Telecom decided it was time to upgrade their fleet of SNG vehicles, they turned to General Dynamics’ SATCOM Technologies. Needing to upgrade their CDMA trunk backhaul over satellite services across the country, China Telecom added more than 75 vehicles to their SNG stable, incorporating a mix of antennas and upconverters.
China Telecom selected SATCOM Technologies’ C135M, C180M, and C240M antenna products and a variety of the Company’s powerful, solid-state amplifiers ranging from 40 to 100 Watts. China Telecom’s flagship SNG vehicles are Toyota Land Cruisers. Some 69 units were equipped with SATCOM Technologies’ C135M antennas and model CPKO 40-W block upconverters (70-Watts for use in some of the more remote locations).
Global Debut
China Telecom rolled out its new fleet of SNG vehicles to provide CDMA and uplink services for the Shanghai Expo which opened earlier this month. The Shanghai Expo is a huge multinational event currently attracting more than 250,000 visitors per day. Total attendance is expected to surpass 70 million over the next six months.
Mr. Lanfeng Jiao, Senior Project manager of China Telecom Satellite Communications Limited, said, “We’ve been very happy with the products we purchased from SATCOM Technologies and the support we’ve received from them and Beijing Bo-Wei-Si-Chuang Tech. Our fleet of SUV’s is extremely important for providing emergency services throughout the country. For example, there were about 10 SUVs deployed to Yushu, Qinghai to provide CDMA service after the Yushu earthquake in April 2010. We look forward to continued success together in the future.”
Chris Callow, Manager of Tactical Antenna Sales for SATCOM Technologies, added “The C135M SNG antenna was an ideal fit for most of China Telecom’s fleet because it offers the performance of a 1.5m antenna for the cost of a 1.2m. In addition, its footprint is perfectly suited for the small SUVs they are using.”
“We’re very happy that China Telecom selected us as their SATCOM products supplier. We brought together a fantastic team consisting of our Antenna Products business in Kilgore Texas, our Electronics business in State College, Pennsylvania, and the in-country integrator, Beijing Bo-Wei-Si-Chuang Tech. It was a pleasure working with China Telecom; they’re a wonderful customer and we are very excited about upcoming opportunities to work together again.”
